CC Sabathia Dispatches

Now the question is who Sabathia replaces in the rotation and who goes to Nashville. He will probably start on Tuesday, which is his normal day to pitch. If Parra moves up, McClung will go to the bullpen. If McClung pitches, then Parra will replace Bush. Ned, being Ned, will probably keep the veteran Bush and a swiftly aging Jeff Suppan in the rotation. I have to go with Ned on this one. McClung, because of his fastball, will be more effective as a reliever than Bush or Suppan. They’ll probably send the lefty Stetter to Nashville, which is a mistake. Mota should be traded or designated for assignment as he is showing why, despite yesterday’s scoreless inning, he was booed out of New York last year.

Don’t say they paid too high a price. As history shows, we may only get one chance in the next 20 years to go for it. I applaud the move. Enjoy the next 74 games, folks. Being a baseball fan doesn’t get any better than this.

  2. La Crosse: Dimensions (Left-Center-Right): 325- 365- 315
  3. Wausau: Dimensions: 316 L, 340 LC, 360 C, 340 RC, 316 R
  4. Battle Creek: Dimensions: 322 L, 402 C, 333 R
  5. Frame Park : A commenter who is unhappy with me and my choice of hobbies (see comments) did give some useful information, “For the record, Frame Park is 300-305 ft. down the lines, 352 ft. to the alleys, and 380 ft. to dead center, according to the measurements hanging on the OF walls.”
  • OK, he didn’t read my post with all the pictures of Frame, doesn’t know I’ve been watching and playing baseball at the Frame Park diamond for 50 years, doesn’t address what you do with the light towers if you move the fences back, doesn’t explain how they’re going to add seating down the right field line and his point about the streets being able to handle the parking of Riverfest is faulty since that was four consecutive days in duration and I would submit that it did, indeed, cause problems in the neighborhood. But perhaps I’ve been asking the wrong question. Instead of asking how a team can play at Frame Park considering the dimensions, the lack of parking and the neighborhood opposition, I should be asking why they are so set on taking Frame Park? I’ve offered an excellent option on the WCTC campus. There are other parks in Waukesha. Why just Frame Park or nothing?

Good question!

Probably because it is one of the most valuable pieces of property in the city.

I will try to be more civil in my arguments about the baseball park than the other poster you commented on.

From what I understand WCTC didn’t want the facility there and the Expo center, which would be a nice spot, said they are working on a long-range plan and didn’t want them there at this time and couldn’t guarantee they could accommodate them in the future.

Also, they are not “taking” Frame Park. They want to play 34 games over the course of 3 months…a small price to pay for the significant upgrades to the field and free year-round field maintenance. Plus it is something that a large number of people and their families would enjoy.

There were layouts presented at the meeting and I think that people’s perception of the scale of this project are way out of whack. I think that people should go to the meetings and see for themselves instead of speculating about how this will ruin Frame Park. I am sure if you call the City they would send you a copy of the conceptual layouts.

There would be new lights installed and the fences are not being proposed to be moved. Again these are college players using wooden bats for the first time. Carroll has played games there and that’s a college program that can use aluminum bats. There was talk of adding a retractable netting along the outfield fence that could be raised and lowered during games in case people are concerned about safety. However keep in mind that there are other teams that play there and there have probably been thousands of home runs hit in that park without incident.

In my opinion parking is the only concern and its one that can be addressed. There are upwards of 500 spaces within a short walk, not including hundreds of on street spots and a lot of downtown lots too. Look at the LaCrosse field (Copeland Park) on google maps and their parking situation. They have a capacity of 3,550 and way less parking than Frame Park and no problems. People park on the street and some people rent out spaces on their driveways.
